Industrial Tanks Paint and Coatings Classification

Industrial tank coatings mi use different types of paints to paint different types of tanks. Industrial tanks can be made up of different materials such as concrete, metals, plastic and so one. Different types of surfaces are treated different when painting. Let’s have a look at paints and coatings classifications.

Single coat
The term single coat is self explanatory. It means that there is only one coat to be painted. The paint is made in such a way that it performs all the functions that are expected of the paint on a particular product. The paint is expected to have an attractive color and also to resist scratching and marring when it is applied to an industrial tank by industrial tank coatings mi. in many cases, specific paints are rarely able to perform various functions of coating adequately and this leads to separate paints being developed for individual performance requirements.
Multicoats
This means that two or more coatings are applied to an industrial tank. Each paint has got distinct functions and the performance of all coats combined is beyond the capabilities of a single formulation. Industrial tank coatings may apply the first coat which may be an alkyd primer followed by a modified acrylic surface as the second coat. You can apply the topcoat as urethane material. In this case, each paint type has got its own special functions and by using several different formulations then the overall paint system has better performance than it could be achieved by any other single coat.
Paint types according to binder category
The binder is always the heart of the paint. The chemistry of binders gives paints the formulated paint specific properties. For instance, the flexibility and the hardness of a dry paint film will vary according to the type of the binder in the paint and with average size and size distribution range of resin molecules in a given paint batch.
Acrylics
These are binders that are able to achieve a high gloss and form hard and highly weather-able surfaces. Hardness for acrylics contributes to good abrasion resistance and increases the durability. These resins are above average when it comes to cost. Acrylics have excellent heat stability and chemical and ultraviolet light resistance.
Alkyds
This is a family of resins that are widely used because they are so varied. Each alkyd can be cross formulated with different binder chemicals. It is therefore possible in this case to produce paints with enormous variety of specific performance properties. These binders come close to being the general purpose paint as they have good overall properties and their moderate cost. Alkyds are modified chemically vegetable oils especially linseed oils and soya. They incorporate drying oils, and they are often used to produce ambient cure paints. This is one of the important factors that contribute to alkyds being used heavily used paint resins. Carbon-carbon unsaturated intramolecular bonds in alkyds react with oxygen in air to produce fully cured finishes. They are the major resins used in combination with others to introduce the air dry capability in a paint formulation.
