Much damage to a building usually comes from its roofs. Leaking
roofs posses’ great risk not only to the building but even to other
installation such as the electricity wiring as they are source of power break
out when naked power wire comes into contact with water. Just like any other
part of a building roofs need special care too and elastomeric roofing ensures
that these roofs last for long and no unpleasant scenery is found on top of the
building as a result of corrosion and rusting of the roof .Elastomeric roofing
is the process of using acrylic latex spray-product to coat the surfaces of the
roof. When using this roofing it is advised that proper cleaning of the surface
be made to remove any remaining of the previous coatings and drying of the
surface to follow the cleaning.
Advantages of elastomeric roofing
These roofing are compatible to any roof type hence they can be applied
on wood, single-ply roof types, metal roofs, concrete, polyurethane and
built-up roofing. However, elastomeric roofing works better with certain roof
types than others hence expert advices should be sought before embarking on
using this type of roofing. These roofing are non toxic as they usually don’t
emit any chemicals hence they are safe for use in residential houses without
the need to wear protective gears. Also, there is no complication in the use of
these roofing. Elastomeric roof coatings have heat reflexive properties. The
acrylic latex spray-product used is white in color hence it aids a lot in
reflecting sun rays. This saves money as less or no cooling mechanism is needed
to keep the building conducive. Elastomeric roofs are able to transfer their
heat reflection property to any roof type hence no need to change the roof top
only coating is needed to enjoy a conducive living environment free from high
temperatures. Elastomeric roofing are also durable saving money that would be
used to replace the coat on the roof as are resistant to corrosion which is the
major cause of coating coming out or wear and tears on the roof. The ability to
reflect sun rays ensures that this roofing last for long as these sun rays are
the major cause of aging in roofs. Certain roof types are at an advantage when
elastomeric roofing is used on them. For example, polyurethane foam roof types
usually get protection from ozone and ultra-violet light.
Properties of elastomeric roofing
These roofing are heat reflective due to their white color that
reflect sun rays that would otherwise be absorbed by the building, causing a
rise in the room temperatures. This property ensures that less money is used to
in storing cooling mechanisms such as funs. Some of the available elastomeric
roof coatings include; butyl mostly used for repairing flat roofs, acrylic used
mainly for sloped roofs, polyurethane and silicon elastomeric roof coating. In terms
of being environmentally friendly acrylic is more preferred than butyl but
overall silicone is considered the best coating for use in all roof types
especially when repairs are to be done.
